Rick Ross is one of hip-hop’s biggest hustlers, and when it comes to the “$500,000 or dinner with JAY-Z?” issue, the Biggest Bawse is only taking one side.
With Hov himself joining in on the topic, the MMG mogul argued on Monday (October 23) why picking the brain of the Brooklyn billionaire is more important than pocketing half a million dollars.
“I’m going to take the dinner and explain why,” Ross said in a video shared on his Instagram Stories. “When I put in my second album [Trilla] in ’08, I met with Hov. We went out to eat. Philippe Chow, Manhattan—at the time, the orange chicken on a stick with peanut sauce was the rage. Allow me to cut to the chase.
“‘Rozay, instead of composing to every beаt you like, write to every record you can make work,’ he added. He quickly told me a story about ‘Big Pimpin.’ ‘Okay, bet.’ I said. I went from making one record for every 80 beats I liked to making 40 records for every 80 beats that worked.”
Rozay acknowledged Hov’s counsel in assisting him in leveling up as an artist, which led to additional success in the rap game and provided the groundwork for his other lucrative business pursuits.
“It took me to another level as a writer, another level as an artist,” he continued. “The volume of stuff I was producing was extraordinary. So you have to ask yourself, “Are you ready to digest the knowledge, or are you just looking at this watch on the table?”
Jigga was asked about it in a recent interview with CBS News Gayle King, and the controversy over a meal with Jay-Z or $500,000 was reignited.
The Roc Nation mogul cleared the air by declaring that fans should definitely take the money because he’s already given his success formula to his music.
“You gotta take the money,” he said quickly. “What shall I sаy?” You received all that knowledge in the music for only $10.99! That’s not a good deal. I wouldn’t advise you to make a bad transaction. Take the $500,000, go buy some CDs, and listen to them—everything is there!
“It’s all there if you piece it together and really listen to the music for the words, for what it is.” Everything I predicted would occur occurred. Everything I claimed I wanted to do, I did. There you have it. The template for me, my life, and my journey is already there.”
